Around the Table: A Home for Simpson Students

College is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming—and sometimes a little lonely. We’d love to welcome you into our home for a night of good food, real conversation, and encouragement from God’s Word.

Each week, we’ll gather around the table for a home-cooked meal, share stories, and talk about practical ways to stay rooted in Christ while navigating life at Simpson. This isn’t a class—it’s a family-style space to belong, be refreshed, and grow together in faith.

This Home Group is designed specifically for Simpson College students as they adjust to a life away from home. Come hungry, come curious, and come as you are. There’s a place for you here.

We will be meeting Sundays 5:30-7pm.

Location will be given after registration.

Your First Steps of Faith

“You Said Yes: Starting Your New Life with Jesus” is a four-week Sunday class in October 2025 at 11:00 a.m. during second service, led by Ken and Melanie Huggard, designed to help new believers, returning believers, and seekers take confident next steps in their faith. Using a simple booklet as our guide, we’ll walk through Week 1: Introduction and What to Expect, Week 2: Starting to Follow Jesus, Week 3: Living Like Jesus Lived, and Week 4: Loving Like Jesus Loved...all in a warm, welcoming space where you can ask questions, grow in understanding, and discover practical ways to live out your faith every day.

Ken and Melanie have pursued Jesus for 31 years. They've been at Risen King for over 2 years, they've been together for 34 years, have 3 adult children, and 2 grandchildren. Ken's favorite book in the bible is Ephesians, and Melanie's is 2 Corinthians.

We will be meeting at the church during the 11am service (Room TBD)

This group will run for only 4 weeks

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Book Club

Melanie has worked in the emotional health coaching space since 2015. In the heart of Melanie’s work lies a profound commitment to guiding people towards deeper connection and meaningful decision-making. Melanie blends her expertise of somatic experiencing training and life coach skills alongside a compassionate approach that empowers people to navigate life’s complexities with grace and authenticity while keeping Jesus as the center focus.

We’ll be reading Pete Scazzero’s Emotionally Healthy Spirituality together and talking about what’s really going on beneath the surface of our lives. This isn’t about “checking the box” on another Bible study, it’s about slowing down, being honest with ourselves, and making space for God to meet us right where we are. Think of it like a book club where we can actually process, laugh, wrestle, and share the things we don’t always say out loud.

We will meet for 8 weeks. Read 1 chapter per week. Please read chapter 1 prior to the first meeting.

We will meet starting October 4th 10:30-11:45AM

Location to be given after registration

Listening Prayer: Learning to Hear God’s Voice

Our God is a prolific Communicator! From Genesis to Revelation, we see Him initiating, pursuing, and speaking with His people. It is our great privilege to learn to listen and recognize His voice, which is often a growing experience. Some of the reasons God speaks to us are:

1. To build a relationship of intimacy

2. To transform, heal, and mature us.

3. To enable us to minister to others and listen on their behalf.

4. To give us Kingdom assignments, and.

5. To help us discern His will when making decisions.

The LISTENING PRAYER home group will be an interactive discovery process where we’ll learn to LISTEN—to the Lord, ourselves, & others—as we develop what Dallas Willard describes as an “intermittent, ongoing conversation with God.” I’ve had the joy of walking in this life-giving relationship for many years, and also taught others how to listen to the voice of God for themselves.

Location will be given after registration

“Calm My Anxious Heart"

All widows are invited to this home group where the goal will be to enjoy a safe, supportive environment in which to move forward in your journey, to form meaningful connections with other widows and also go deeper with God. While grief won’t be our focus, this will be a place where it’s OK to not always be OK and where we will all “get it.” To facilitate discussion and bring our thoughts around to God’s continued goodness in the midst of the unimaginable, we will be reading from the book, “Calm My Anxious Heart,” by Linda Dillow (available on Amazon).

Location will be given after registration.

We will be meeting Tuesdays 10-11:30am & 6:30-8pm

Get over the hump and learn how the Word bridges over to prayer together.

Divorce Care

Healing from divorce is not easy. At DivorceCare, people in separation and divorce find tools, teaching and support to help them deal with their pain and give them hope for the future. Most people will say separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they’ve ever had. If you are facing this, you know it’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never encountered before. In this support group you will find people who understand your journey and speak the same language as they travel it.

We will meet at Risen King (Room TBD) on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 starting October 1st for this 13 week cycle. The workbook cost is $25 per participant.

Serve Teams

Serve Teams exist to equip people to actively participate in ministry and serve others. Their goals are to activate ministry, foster growth, and build community. These teams meet year-round, with schedules tailored to the specific ministry they serve. Each team focuses on a particular area of service, offering opportunities to use your unique gifts while forming deeper connections with fellow team members. Serve teams play a vital role at Risen King, driving the mission of building His Church. You can join a serve team at any time by scanning the QR code on a host team member’s badge, on the seat backs in the Worship Center, or by visiting the website.
